Dusseldorf is one of the most important economic, traffic and cultural centres in Germany. After the end of the 7 years war, end of the 17th century Dusseldorf was occupated by the French power under Napoloeon and had been belonging at the beginning of the 18th century to the kingdom of Bavaria, after the French capitulation. Already in 1815, after several disputes between France and Prussia,  Dusseldorf got into the Prussian influence and was taken by the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm at the meantime.

Dusseldorf was known for a longtime as a small residence and official town, surrounded by a fortress and a closed ring of vast and widths park areas. Next to the older construction of the city view, a new part of Duesseldorf was build and contructed in the classical style. The harmonious town scape, which exist since the 18th century with beautiful building from the Classicism and the Renaissance distinguish even these days a contemporary atmosphere.

Dusseldorf has since a longtime the reputation to be an nice art and garden city. The free port (Freihafen) was created in the middle of the 18th century cause to the increasing Rhine shiping and navigation. Dusseldorf belongs beside Munich and Berlin to the most important cities for the fashion and textile branch. The town survived both world wars nearly lighthearted. Since the mid of the 20th century, Dusseldorf has been developed to an important industrial city what is reflect amongst others such as the development and the construction of the media harbour as well as the construction of the Rhine shore tunnel.  Nowadays, the Dusseldorf media harbour is well-known as a popular area for the office and business world. It offers also numerous leisure activities.
