Leipzig has a magic attraction by his varied architectural styles and the classical life style on the other hand. Leipzig is also well- known as a music and art town, especially by the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys.

Halle / Saale was for a long time of favorite Residence of the cardinal of Brandenburg, who left the city after the reformation. In the middle of the 15th century the famous market church with its 4 towers was built in the style of the Renaissance. Albrecht von Brandenburg who had a spendour addition to Splendour building bought the city many other nice buildings and constructions in the style of Renaissance, such as the new residence, the castle Moritzburg or the cathedral.

Halle was hardly destroyed during the 2nd world war. Nevertheless, Halle was for a long run during the war the camp of forced laborers who built on the Siebel airplanes. The resident count of Luckner, who had been living in Halle at this time, handed the city over to the American groups in April 1945. Thereby he avoided air raids and destructions of the town during the American occupying. In July 1945,  Halle was taken over from the former Soviet Union, who made Halle to the capital of the province Saxony. 1952 Halle became the capital of the district Halle in the former GDR.
1990 the district Halle was dissolved and the city Halle belong since then to the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.
